Mary Margaret Kulbok

June 25, 1921 — October 11, 2019

Mary Margaret (Myers) Kulbok, age 98, passed away in Florida on Friday, October 11, 2019.  Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 25, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Jacob M. Myers and Loretta (Donnelly) Douglass.  She was raised and educated in rural Pennsylvania.  Following her high school graduation, Mary enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving her country during World War II.  She traveled up and down the east coast during the war and was eventually stationed in New York City.

Upon her discharge from the Navy, Mary returned to Pennsylvania and married her first husband, Richard Tucker.  After welcoming her son, John, Mary relocated to Norwood, Massachusetts and began taking classes at Boston University to earn her master’s degree, spending the summer months working as a lifeguard at the beach on New Pond in Norwood.   Once Mary completed her studies at BU, she took a position with the Wrentham State School, working as a physical education teacher.

As a proud Navy veteran, Mary joined the American Legion in Norwood, where she met Peter P. Kulbok.  Mary and Pete were married and made their home in Walpole, Massachusetts, where they welcomed their son, Stanley.  As a very social couple that loved music, Mary and Pete could be found at dancing the night away on any given weekend.  Mary continued working at the Wrentham State School for 35 years before her retirement in the mid-1980s.  For all of her hard work and dedication, she was presented an award by Governor Michael Dukakis.

In her later years, Mary followed her morning routine of enjoying breakfast at Westbury Farms followed by coffee and conversation at Country Kitchen.  The afternoons were reserved for friends at the Walpole VFW Post, where Mary was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary.  Back at home, she loved taking care of her yard, and many animals, including her dogs, cats, and the occasional squirrel.  She loved feeding and watching the many birds in her yard and was always sure to catch the latest episode of Family Feud in the afternoon.
