Mary Alice Hinds

June 18, 1934 — September 18, 2021

Mary Alice Hinds, age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the Life Care Center in Raynham, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on June 18, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Edmond and Lucienne (Ferland) Cormier. She was raised in Norwood, where she attended Saint Catherine's Elementary School, before graduating from Norwood High School with the Class of 1953. While in high school, Mary took a part-time position with Furlong's Candies on Route 1 in Norwood, where she transitioned into a full-time role following her graduation. This is where she first met and fell in love with John (her Jackie).

Mary went on to marry her beloved husband, John William Hinds on July 17, 1954 in her hometown of Norwood. The young couple then moved to Texas, where they welcomed their first child, Cynthia, while John was in the Air Force. After, they made their home in Walpole, where Mary took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her five children. As a young mother, Mary was also a gifted guitar player who loved every chance she had to be on stage with her band in local halls. Mary also became very involved with the Walpole Pop Warner Program, serving as a coach for the cheerleaders, and earning a State Championship. Throughout the years, Mary always kept in touch with her friends from her “Club”, a close-knit group of women who were friends since childhood. As her children grew up, Mary returned to her working career, taking a position with Tile City on Route 1 in Norwood. She always made time for her passion, crafting, and she later went on to open her own ceramic studio, Mary's Ceramic Loft, in her home on Clarkson Drive. She also opened a studio on Washington Street in Walpole, where she operated the store until her retirement in the late 1990s. Following her retirement, Mary settled in the Middleboro area to be closer to her family.

More than anything, Mary was a dedicated family woman, who treasured each moment spent with those she loved. She regularly hosted fun theme parties and large family dinners. After welcoming her grandchildren, she traveled all over, supporting all their activities from cheerleading to softball. She and Papa were their biggest fans! Back at home, Mary enjoyed sitting on her back deck, enjoying the sunshine and watching the birds.
