Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Hall Gebhardt, age 91, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at the Bay Path Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on May 20, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Helge Edmond and Mary (Murray) Ostrom. She was raised in the Plimptonville neighborhood of Walpole, Massachusetts and graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1949.
While still in high school, Betty met her husband to be, W. Robert Hall. They were married in November 1950, and together made their home in Norwood, Massachusetts, where Betty took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her five boys. While their family was young, Betty and Bob purchased a cottage in Barnstable Village on Cape Cod, taking their sons to enjoy the summers at the beach. As her boys grew up, Betty took a position with Norwood Hospital, working first as a dietary aide and later as the secretary to the director of food service at the hospital. Betty and Bob loved to dance and often wowed the crowds when they took the floor. In 1984, they moved to her hometown of Walpole, making their home on Common Street, and a short time later, Betty retired from Norwood Hospital after twenty-nine and a half years of dedicated service.
Following her retirement, Betty and Bob loved taking yearly cruises and Betty enjoyed taking part in the ship's fashion shows, dressing to the nines. Sadly in 1992, Bob passed away, and Betty married Leroy Warren Gebhardt in April 1995, making their home together in Norwood. Betty unfortunately experienced the passing of her second husband, Roy, and moved in with her son, Rick, in North Attleborough. More recently, Betty settled into her home at Forge Hill Senior Living in Franklin, where she thrived, taking part in all the activities they had to offer.
Betty placed her family above all else, always providing unconditional love and support. As the matriarch, she ensured all her sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren gathered together for holiday parties, making sure no one ever left hungry. Betty also enjoyed staying active, taking classes in flower arranging, ceramics, cooking, and cake decorating.
