Mary S. Cisternelli

April 13, 1934 — October 8, 2021

Mary S Cisternelli, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday October 8th with her daughters at home in Florida. Born in Norwood MA on April 13, 1934, she was the daughter of Alice (Sullivan) and William Laverick. She was raised in Norwood, attended St Catherine’s Catholic School followed by Norwood High School where she graduated in 1952.

She started her career in banking, with some singing gigs on the side, followed by years of work in accounting. In 1983 she and two close friends opened Quilts Ltd in Walpole where she spent many happy years. Mary was an avid gardener, seamstress, painter (selling them at gift shops around Harwich Port), and a prize-winning quilter!

In 1957 Mary married Jim Cisternelli, the love of her life. Mary and Jim enjoyed spending time on the beach whether it was St Thomas, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Harwich Port or Plymouth. They enjoyed traveling with friends and hosting many parties.

Most of all, Mary loved spending time with her family in Walpole, Harwich Port & Plymouth. Mary was truly thrilled as her family continued to grow, welcoming 5 grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as “Grammie.” Her friends were as important to her as her family.
But the greatest love of her life was her husband Jim – they were inseparable, and they showed their love for each other every single day.

Beloved wife of 64 years to the late James Cisternelli.
Loving mother of Carla Sullivan and her husband, Kevin, of Foxboro, Laura Hepburn and her late husband, Skip, of Tampa, Florida, and Gina Basler of Tampa.
Cherished grandmother of Allan Hepburn, Derek Basler, Samantha Basler, Michael Cappola, and the late Keith Hepburn.
Sister of the late Joyce Songin and the late Nancy Laverick.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews and cousins, all whom she adored.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Mary’s Church, 176 Washington Street, East Walpole on Saturday November 20th at 11am, followed by a luncheon to celebrate Mary’s life at Beacons Restaurant, 85 Providence Hwy, in East Walpole.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Jimmy Fund, c/o Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
