Martha C. (Walsh) Lescault, age 98, passed away peacefully in her East Walpole, Massachusetts home on Friday, February 2, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Born in her family's Walk Hill Street home in Mattapan on April 26, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Julia Frances (Price) Walsh. Martha lost both her parents as a young girl and was taken in and cared for by her grandparents. She was raised in West Roxbury but enjoyed spending every summer in Falmouth Heights on Cape Cod. In 1936, Martha graduated from Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Jamaica Plain. After graduation, she took a position with the Charlestown Navy Yard.
Martha met her husband to be, Norman E. Lescault, in 1948 at a wedding where she was the Maid of Honor and he was the Best Man. They were married less than a year later on April 30, 1949 in Saint Theresa's Church in West Roxbury. The couple made their home in West Roxbury, where Martha took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her young family. A short time later, Martha and Norman purchased a beach home on White Horse Beach in Plymouth, where they spent every summer.
In the late 1960s, after her children were raised, Martha took a position with the West Roxbury Veterans Administration Hospital, working as a family liaison. She and Norman settled in East Walpole in 1973, where she became a dedicated member of Saint Mary's Church. Martha retired in 1982 after many years of dedicated service to the veterans of the United States Military.
In her retirement, she and Norman enjoyed spending the summer months at their beach home in Plymouth and the winter months in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where Martha would spend countless hours on her favorite beaches. In addition to visiting different areas of the United States, Martha took very memorable trips to Italy and Jamaica. While she traveled often, she always made sure to keep up with current events and was never found without a good book. Back at home in East Walpole, she took great pride in cultivating and caring for her beautiful flower gardens around her home.
More than anything, Martha was dedicated to her family, she was a devoted wife to her late husband Norman and a wonderful mother to her three children. After welcoming her grandchildren, Martha was delighted to take an active role in their lives and was always available to help care for them. Nothing made Martha happier than when she was surrounded by those that she loved.
