Mark R. Spillane, age 60, died in the Miriam Boyd Parlin Residence in Wayland, Massachusetts on Thursday, May 7, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on August 17, 1954, he was the son of the late John E. and Helen Alice (Jarvis) Spillane. He was raised in Walpole and looked forward to his family's annual trip to Pine Knoll Campground in New Hampshire, where he would spend time with his parents and 12 brothers and sisters over the course of 2 weeks. Mark graduated from Walpole High School with the class of 1972. During high school, he found his passion for HAM Radios, which continued throughout his life. He also had a love for the outdoors, and would regularly hike in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
After graduation, Mark sought employment at Howard Engineering on South Street in Walpole. He began taking courses at the Coyne Electrical School, before serving for a brief period in the United States Army. After his discharge, he settled in Sharon, Massachusetts before moving to Wrentham. He found yet another passion, that of riding motorcycles, and in 1981, he took a cross country trip on his bike.
In 1986, Mark met his soon to be wife Susan G. Hurley while working for Hazeltine in Braintree . He was the incoming inspector assigned to Leetron in Rhode Island, where Sue worked as the outgoing inspector. After meeting Sue, he moved to Norton, and in 1989, took a position as a delivery driver for Toyota. As his passion for the outdoors continued, Mark and Sue would take regular camping trips to both New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
Mark married his beloved wife, Sue, on September 19, 1992 and they made their home in South Walpole. Together, they welcomed their boys, Kyle in 1995 and Sean in 1997. He loved spending time with his sons, attending every little league game and taking them to play miniature golf.
In 2004, Mark left Toyota to take a position with Allied Transportation in Walpole which later became CTX, working until the summer of 2014.
Mark's passion for the outdoors did not end with hiking and camping, he loved tending to his flower and vegetable gardens and bird watching. He was an avid New England Sports Fan and loved following the Patriots and Bruins. Mark also had a quiet side, being an avid reader of non fiction, especially enjoying history. As a talented woodworker, he built the addition on his home, needing just a little help to put up the walls.
Mark's family meant the world to him. He always made sure to set aside time from his schedule to take the annual Spillane Family trip to North Conway. He also passed down his love of camping to his wife Sue and their sons, Kyle and Sean, taking a week to go camping along the Maine Coastline and Steep Falls.
