Marjorie A. (Cronin) Rooney, age 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at her home in East Walpole, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving daughters. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on August 4, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Lillian (Coughlin) Cronin. She spent her early years in Norwood, before settling with her family on Pleasant Street in East Walpole at the age of eleven. Following Marjorie's graduation from Walpole High School in 1950, she took a position with Toby Duchman's Metal Shop in Norwood.
Marjorie married her beloved husband, Francis P. Rooney, on June 29, 1952, in Saint Catherine's Church in Norwood. The young couple made their home together on Pleasant Street in East Walpole, where they welcomed two daughters, Ellen and Christine. While her children were young, Marjorie worked part-time as a waitress, however, after both her girls were enrolled in school, she returned to work full-time, taking a position with Spark's Department Store in Norwood. In 1972, Marjorie went to work at Fernandes Grocery Store in Walpole, working as a meat wrapper. Eight years later, she took a position with Shaw's in Norwood, continuing to work as a meat wrapper, until her retirement in 1997.
Following her retirement, Marjorie enjoyed spending time with her friends, playing bingo at Saint Catherine's Church in Norwood, the Walpole Senior Center, and the Norwood Senior Center. She enjoyed an active lifestyle and looked forward to participating in exercise classes at the Norwood Senior Center. Marjorie enjoyed some quiet time too, working on one of her knitting, sewing, or crocheting projects at home. Most of all, Marjorie was dedicated to her family. She was delighted at the birth of her grandchildren and loved taking an active role in their lives.
