Marion Grace (Scott) Teevens, age 90, passed away peacefully in the Harrington House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Walpole, Massachusetts on Sunday, April 10, 2016. Born in Sharon, Massachusetts on December 21, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Marsden & Eva (Rafter) Scott. She was raised in Sharon by Lake Massapoag, where she owned and operated the Wiggly Worm Corporation, selling nightcrawlers to the local fishermen. Marion graduated from Sharon High School with the Class of 1946.
She met her soon to be husband, John E. Teevens, while they were both working in a hotel in Boca Grande, Florida in 1946. They were married on December 4, 1947, making their home in Sharon. Marion continued working as a waitress at the Baystate Raceway in Foxboro and later purchased a cranberry bog with her brother, Bruce from their brother Blois, where she enjoyed gathering the harvest.
Marion later took on the role of a homemaker to raise and care for her young family. As a young couple, Marion and John enjoyed skiing in North Conway, New Hampshire and in New York and after welcoming their children, Marianne and John, Jr., would regularly take family ski trips.
As an avid sailor, Marion was a charter member of the Sharon Yacht Club and won various races aboard her sailboat the "Tarpon." Her sense of adventure continued on the road when her son purchased her a Honda Motorcycle in the 1970's and turned back to the water in 1979 when she took on windsurfing. She became a very accomplished windsurfer to the point where she began teaching the sport to others and always maintained a positive motivator to her students.
Marion and John loved wintering in Okeechobee & Hobe Sound, Florida where she sailed daily. However, her true love was her home in Sharon. She was a talented woodworker, building a hutch in her dining room, finishing her basement, and even building her shed. Marion also had another skill of making homemade wine, which her family all enjoyed.
