Marion A. Dowd

Marion A. (Carmichael) Dowd, age 95, died in her East Walpole, Massachusetts home on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 1, 1919, she graduated from Jamaica Plain High School with the class of 1935. She has been a resident of East Walpole since 1976 moving from Dedham.

Marion worked as a statistician at the Division of Employment Security in Boston, retiring in 1990 after 15 years of service.

In her early years, she loved riding her Indian Motorcycle, and in her later years she became interested in knitting, crocheting, reading, and word searches. Marion's family was her greatest treasure, when she was living in Jamaica Plain, in the same house with her brother, Barney and Alice, and best friend, Dot, she loved serving as a mother figure to the many children that grew up in the home. As her own family grew, Marion's greatest joy came from spending time with her daughter, granddaughters, and great grandchildren.

Beloved wife of the late John J. Dowd. Loving mother of Margaret M. Robinson Stanley and her husband Elliott of East Walpole. Cherished grandmother of Karen Brady and her husband Thomas of East Walpole, Kimberly Meehan and her husband Shaun of Norfolk and Kristen Robinson of East Walpole. Great grandmother of Katherine, Kerianne, John, and Conor Brady and Matthew, Allison, Ava, and Mia Meehan. Sister of the late Francis X. Carmichael. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Marion's Life Celebration on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 4-8 PM and Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 8-8:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary's Church, 176 Washington Street, East Walpole on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Arc of South Norfolk, 789 Clapboardtree Street, Westwood, MA 02090.
