Marian E. Billingham

Marian E. Billingham, age 96, passed away on Friday November 08, 2024 at Bridges in Mashpee, Massachusetts.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 12, 1928, she was the daughter of Marion and Hilda (Simmons) Richardson. Marian grew up in Dedham, Massachusetts alongside her younger sister, Shirley. She graduated from Dedham High School before studying at Boston University. Marian worked in Ogunquit at the beautiful Cliff House for a season, where she fell in love with Maine.

In the late 1940’s, Marian met her future husband Warren “Mike” Billingham, a Norwood resident and military police veteran. Marian married the love of her life on September 8, 1951, in Dedham. The couple spent two years in Minnesota while Mike was attending Concordia University before returning to Massachusetts.

While living in Norwood, Marian and Mike welcomed their first son, Marc. With their family expanding, they built their family home in Walpole in 1954. They welcomed two more children, Rand and Brooks over the coming years.

As her children grew older, Marian found employment with Zoppos Construction in Norwood. For many years she meticulously maintained their bookkeeping and assisted with shipping and receiving. She also assisted with their move to their new location in Avon. When her eldest son was in the military, Marian made many trips to visit him, including when he was stationed in Montana, North Dakota, California, and Utah. She even rented a motor home on one trip out to see the Grand Canyon.

When Marian retired at 67, she wanted to travel even more. She particularly loved visiting family on Martha’s Vineyard, a highly anticipated trip to San Francisco, and when she took a cruise to Alaska. At home, Marian was a cherished volunteer. She exercised her patriotic duty by working election polls, helped her community at the Walpole library, and shared her talents with fiber arts at the local senior center where she would teach others to make blankets for veterans.

In her free time, Marian enjoyed playing bridge and rummy, making beautiful needlepoint, and keeping active by working out with her girlfriends.
