Maria D. (Lippolis) Serena, age 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at the Charlwell House in Norwood, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bergin, New Jersey on September 18, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Marta (Mongelli) Lippolis. She was raised in East Walpole, Massachusetts and graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1945. Following her graduation, Maria took a position with Kendall Mills in Walpole, working with the bookkeeping department.
Maria married her beloved husband, Victor A. Serena, on June 4, 1950, in Saint Mary's Church in East Walpole. Together, they made their home in Norwood, Massachusetts for a short time, before settling in East Walpole, where Maria took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her young family.
As a strong advocate for veterans, Maria was a longtime member of the DAV, Women's Auxiliary, Chapter 90, where she served as past commander. She was also dedicated to serving the elderly population in her community of Walpole, as a member and officer with the Walpole Council on Aging.
Beloved wife of the late Victor A. Serena.
Loving mother of Victor A. Serena Jr. and his wife, Jeanne, of Wrentham, Frank Serena of North Attleborough, and the late Jeffrey P. Serena.
Cherished grandmother of Amy Hartley-Gonzalez and Alexander Serena; and great grandmother of Izzabella. Olivia, Abigail, and Mitchell.
Sister of Anna Nardone of Wrentham, the late John Lippolis, and the late Concetta Curtin.
Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for Maria's visitation on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 9 to 10 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 in Saint Mary's Church, 176 Washington Street, East Walpole. Interment will take place in Saint Francis Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) of Massachusetts, State House, Room 546, Boston, MA 02133.
