Margaret "Peggy" Warren died May 31 in Norwood, Ma., following a brief illness. She was 85.
Born in Bethel, Conn., She was the daughter of the late Nelson Judd Washburn and the late Pauline K. Washburn. She graduated from Norwalk (Conn.) High School in 1945, where she excelled in her studies, particularly languages, and enjoyed participating in school musicals. She was also a talented soprano soloist and guitarist. She graduated from the Concord (N.H.) Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. It was during her work at Concord Hospital that she met her husband, Foster Gage "Bud" Warren of Pembroke, N.H., an Air Force pilot. They wed Nov. 5, 1949, and were married for 61 years, making their life together at military bases around the country and overseas, spending retirement years in Cascade, Md., and later, Westerly, R.I. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Warren.
For several years she worked as an R.N. at several hospitals, including Bellevue in N.Y. City and Bloss Memorial Hospital in Atwater, Calif. She also volunteered at community blood drives.
She is survived by her children, Steven M. Warren of Laughlin, Nev., Anthony G. Warren of Ft. Mitchell, Ky., and Anne Warren Murray of Walpole, Ma. She was preceded in death by two sons, Foster Hugh Warren of Blue Ridge Summit., Pa., and Thomas Charles Warren of Brookfield, Conn. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of Edna Merrill of Virginia Beach, Va., Lorraine Osborne of Marietta, Ga., the late Katherine "Kaye" Springer and the late John Washburn, both of Connecticut. An avid reader and talented writer, she will be remembered by all her knew for her for her tremendous sense of humor, her wonderful laugh, her kind heart, her brilliant mind, and her lovely singing voice. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Memorial Mass in Saint Timothy's Church Nichols Street Norwood, MA on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 9AM. Visiting hours are Tuesday, June 5, 2012 from 5-7PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole, MA. Interment will be private.
