Margaret F. (Driscoll) "Peg" Frawley, age 97, passed away peacefully in the Harrington House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Walpole, Massachusetts on Monday, August 8, 2016. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts on July 27, 1919, she was the oldest of seven children born to Dennis J. and Lillian F. (Dow) Driscoll. She was raised in Roslindale and graduated from Jamaica Plain High School with the Class of 1936 before graduating from Boston Clerical School in 1939.
Prior to the outbreak of World War II, Peg met John Henry Frawley at the Charlestown Navy Yard in 1941. It was love at first sight. The war kept them apart for a time, however, as Peg proudly served her country in the United States Navy WAVES program. She was stationed on an island off the coast of Washington state, where she worked in a top secret department, intercepting Japanese messages. Upon her return home, she married John on January 26, 1945 and together they made their home in Roxbury.
Once their family began to grow with the welcoming of their first daughter, Peg and John moved to Dorchester and in 1963, they settled, with their six children, in Roslindale. After raising her family, Peg took a secretarial position with the Brighton School System, where she retired from in 1983.
Family was incredibly important to Peg, and she loved taking an active role in her children's and grandchildren's lives. Some of her favorite memories were from her birthday celebrations, when she was surrounded by her loving family. She always made sure that each one of her children knew how special they were to her, celebrating important days together, and continued this tradition with her grandchildren. As a devoted mother, she loved the opportunity to help raise her grandson, Shawn. In 1996, two years after her husband passed, Peg left her Roslindale home and settled in Norwood, Massachusetts to be closer to her family. She was a wealth of wisdom to her family and taught them, by example, the meaning of unconditional love.
In addition to her favorite memories made with her family, she made several more wonderful memories on her various trips across the world. She enjoyed visiting Ireland as well as cruising around Europe, Aruba, Hawaii, and Grand Cayman.
As a devout Catholic, Peg leaned on her faith to help her through some troubling times, including the loss of two daughters, her husband and parents, and the time that her sons spent overseas during the Vietnam War. Through the power of prayer, she was able to move forward in her life and was overjoyed when her prayers were answers, as her boys returned home safely.
