Louis J. Maranhas, age 90, passed away in the Harrington House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Walpole, Massachusetts on Thursday, May 5, 2016. Born in Somerville, Massachusetts on August 26, 1925, he was the son of the late Joseph L. and Maxemena (Rodrigues) Maranhas. He was raised in Milton, Massachusetts and attended Milton Public Schools. His education was interrupted by World War II, when Louis proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He served aboard the U.U.S. Wyoming as a mechanic. He was released from active duty in April of 1946. At this time, Louis returned to Milton High School, graduating with the Class of 1947.
After graduation, he worked for Mullen's Service Station in Milton before taking a position with the Milton School Department as an Assistant School Mechanic in June of 1948. He continued working as a mechanic until he was recalled by the U.S. Navy to serve during the Korean War. He was attached to the U.S.S. A.T. Harris, where as a 1st Class Machinist Mate, he was in charge of the refrigeration plant and later the engine room. After his release in 1952, he returned to the Milton School Department.
In 1953, Louis took a position with Toledo Scale Company in Brighton, working as a kitchen machinery service man. While working at Toldeo, he moved to Walpole, Massachusetts on July 1, 1975 and three years later married his wife, Marylyn, on July 1, 1978 in the Blessed Sacrament Church in Walpole. After 34 years with Toledo, Louis retired and began working at the Alliance Scale Company. In 1993, after leaving Alliance, he began working as a groundskeeper at the Walpole Country Club, which as an avid golfer, he truly enjoyed.
As an avid outdoors man, Louis enjoyed fishing and was an ardent hunter, collecting many deer, bears, and pheasants. He enjoyed skin diving and belonged to the New England Skin Diving School. In addition, Louis had a love for all music, regularly attending various concerts.

Loving father of Jeffrey E. Maranhas of Weymouth, Donna Marie Groves and her husband Alan of Middleboro, Robert Ross and his wife Suzanne M. of Chalfont, PA.
Cherished grandfather of Heather and Matthew Groves, Kevin, Michael, Christopher Ross and great grandfather of Lucas, Landon, Logan, and Hunter.
Brother of the late Ellen Mullany.
Also survived by his three nieces.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Louis' Life Celebration on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 9-10:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne.
