Louis Thomas "Musty" Falcone, age 91, passed away in his Norfolk, Massachusetts home on Monday, January 18, 2016. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Salvatore Thomas and Mabel (Bohman) Falcone. He was raised in Roslindale and graduated from Roslindale High School with the Class of 1942. While in high school, Musty belonged to the Italian Club and as a member of the High School Bowling League, was an avid bowler.
Following graduation, Musty enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country during World War II. As a skilled teacher, who trained U.S. Navy aviation personnel and the Free French on 30 Caliber and 50 Caliber machine guns, he remained state side throughout the war. He was given an honorable discharged in 1946 as an Aviation Ordnanceman 1st Class.
After his discharge and the close of World War II, Musty began using the G.I. Bill to take courses at Northeastern University, to earn his Associates Degree. Shortly after, he was re called to serve his country and took Instructor Courses and Video Instruction of Reserve Television Shows. He married his wife Margaret Elizabeth Nangle on June 17, 1951 in Saint Ann's Church in Boston, while still on active duty with the Navy. They made their home together in East Walpole, while his service continued in the United States though the Korean War. In 1954, Musty was discharged and completed his course of study at Northeastern to earn his Bachelor's Degree in History and Government in 1955.
In 1955, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and continued his patriotic duty to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He retired from the United States Military in 1963 as a Senior Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force, with over 20 years of dedicated service.
His service to others did not end, however, with his retirement. Upon returning to civilian life, Musty quick took a position as an industrial arts teacher with the King Philip Regional Schools and he, with his family, settled in Norfolk, Massachusetts. While working at King Philip, he continued his own education, earning his Master's Degree in Education from Bridgewater State College in 1965. He went on to teach in the Stoughton High School and Peter Thatcher Middle School in Attleboro before retiring from the Franklin Junior High School in 1988, after a 26 year teaching career. He was extremely proud of his students, especially when as young adults, they would come up to his to shake his hand or give him a big hug.
As an active member of his Norfolk community, Musty would regularly umpire games for the Little League and Softball Programs as well as the Police and Fire Game. He loved spending time at the beach and especially enjoyed Horseneck Beach and Old Silver Beach and he looked forward to his weekly card game with friends. Most of all, Musty treasured the time that he spent with his grandchildren. He would attend all of their sporting events and as a talented woodworker, he passed down his skills to this younger generation of his family.
