Louis DeVirgilio, age 93, died in the Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts on Friday, January 2, 2015. Born in Pollutri, Italy on January 1, 1922, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Annina (DiGiovanni) DiVirgilio. His family came to the United States of America when Louis was 3 years old. He graduated from Dedham High School with the class of 1940. After high school, Louis proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He took part in the Northern France Campaign and the Normandy Campaign with Company M, 119th Infantry, 30th Division. He earned the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in battle in France and was also awarded the Silver Star. He was honorably discharged in 1945 as a Private First Class. After returning from the war, Louis attended Vesper George School of Art in Boston. He later attended the University of Massachusetts at Boston, earning his certificate in Landscape Design. He has been a resident of Walpole, Massachusetts since 2006 moving from Jensen Beach, Florida. He had previously resided in Norwood, Massachusetts for 30 years.
