Loreto "Larry" Grilli

September 9, 1929 — August 17, 2016

Loreto "Larry" Grilli, age 86, passed away peacefully in his Walpole, Massachusetts home on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cassino, Italy on September 9, 1929, he was the son of the late Emilio and Clorinda (Tomassi) Grilli. He was raised and educated in Italy, later joining the Italian Army, serving with the Bersaglieri.

In 1952, Larry immigrated to Brazil, where he met his soon to be wife, Neide Martins. They were married on September 14, 1957 in Saint Theresa's Church in Sao Paulo and welcomed their daughter, Tina, in 1958. Larry moved his young family to the United States of America in 1960, where they made their home in Norwood, Massachusetts. As a skilled carpenter, he quickly found work with A. Bonfatti & Co. Inc and joined the Laborer's Union, Local 138 in Norwood. While living in Norwood, Larry and Neide welcomed their second daughter, Nancy, in 1964. After spending some time back in Brazil, Larry built his family a new home on Old Post Road in Walpole, where they settled in 1973. Larry built his second home in Walpole in 1983 on Robbins Road, where he and Neide have lived ever since.

After his "official" retirement in 1990, Larry could devote more of his time to the various projects that he took on. He had an eye for engineering and could easily create a solution to any problem in his head and produce a rough sketch in minutes, much to the amazement of everyone around him. He fixed many totaled cars, bringing them back into running and driving order and also learned how to repair his bulldozer and tractors. His carpentry work did not end with his retirement as he built, without the help of a crew, three homes, a five bay garage and a duplex. He could figure out how much material was needed, lengths of boards and what angles were required just by looking at a basic sketch that he created.

Above all, family was most important to Larry, he took great pride in providing for and taking care of them always. As a devoted husband, Larry made sure his home was perfect for Neide. His daughters relied on Larry to fix their cars and help with construction projects, including building new homes. Larry loved having his family to his home, where he cooked his favorite Italian dishes for them and spent hours talking around the table.

Beloved husband of Neide M. (Martins) Grilli.
Loving father of Tina Britney and her husband Brad of Carver and Nancy A. Brady and her husband John of Medway.
Cherished grandfather of Nicholas P. Jones and his fiance Eliza of Charlestown, Tracy A. Jones and her fiance Adam of New Bedford, Michael J. Brady and Emily E. Brady both of Medway.
