Loreto A. "Larry" Cuggino, age 88, passed away peacefully in the Stanley R. Tippett Home in Needham, Massachusetts on Monday, October 3, 2016. Born in Brighton, Massachusetts on September 17, 1928, he was the son of the late Donato and Loretta (Leone) Cuggino. He was raised in Brighton and graduated from Brighton High School with the Class of 1946.
Shortly after graduation, Larry enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country at the end of World War II. He was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations, taking part in the Occupation of Japan. He was honorably discharged in November of 1947.
Upon his return home to Brighton, he began working as a carpenter with his brothers, forming N.C. Construction. Larry was a proud member of the Carpenter's Union, Local 40 in Cambridge for many years.
Larry married his wife, Jennie M. Puopolo, on November 15, 1952, and together, they made their home in Norwood, Massachusetts for a short time before returning to the city. They lived in Allston initially and later settled back in Larry's hometown of Brighton. While living in Brighton, Larry enjoyed attending the New England Patriot's games at the Boston University Field. He enjoyed them so much that he became a season ticket holder in 1963, continuously enjoying games through the 2006 season in Foxboro. In 1965, with the addition of two children, Larry moved his young family to West Roxbury and they enjoyed spending two weeks at Popponesset Beach on Cape Cod together every summer. His love for his hometown of Brighton continued, as he remained a member of the Brighton Elks.
Larry retired from the Carpenter's Union in 1990, with over 40 years of dedicated service to the Local. In his retirement, he and Jennie enjoyed traveling together, whether to Florida for a week or to Atlantic City to catch a show. However, most of all, Larry was a dedicated family man, who didn't like to be too far from his children and grandchildren. In 1996, Larry and Jennie moved to Walpole, Massachusetts and took on a vital role in helping to raise their grandchildren. Nothing made Larry happier than being around his family.
