Lois Allen Jones

May 11, 1930 — November 19, 2014

Lois Allen Jones, 84, passed peacefully at her home on November 19, 2014 in the company of her family and beloved cat, Rascal.

A lifelong resident of Walpole, she was born on May 11, 1930 to the late Carl and Evelyn Hertel, she is also predeceased by her brother Carl F. Hertel. Lois was married to the late Capt. George M. Allen in 1951 until his death in 1956. They had two children, David Caldwell Allen who resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with his husband Kenneth I. Flick and the late Debbi L. Allen of Attleboro. Lois was also the beloved wife of 48 years to the late Edward ‘Ted’ Jones. She is survived by their children Julie Jones Hutcheson of Middleboro and Jeffrey and his wife Stacey Jones of Walpole. Lois is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Elizabeth Denny, Ariel Denny, Paul Hutcheson and Matthew Hutcheson, her sister Judy Kamon and her companion Paul Schwalbe of Wrentham and many nieces and nephews.

Lois graduated from Walpole High School in 1948 and went on to earn a degree in Home Economics from Framingham State College. She found great joy in cooking and creating meals for her family and friends. She would start each day with a cup of coffee pouring over her extensive collection of recipes.

She loved to entertain at her home in Walpole, her home in Harwichport on Cape Cod and even on the family boat “The Jones Boy”. Her social calendar was always full with luncheons, Book Club, Walpole Women’s Club, The Lois Club and volunteering for the Union Congregational Church Harvest Fair.

Her love of baking inspired a small wedding cake business that she ran out of her kitchen on Old Post Road and made deliveries in the family station wagon. She also loved to sew and often made matching dresses for her daughter Julie and nieces Lori and Susan.

Lois devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her late husband Ted, her mother Evelyn, her uncle Frederick Rogness and mother-in law Celia Peterson Jones. Her inevitable smile was a joy to all that knew her and will be missed.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Lois’s Life Celebration on Sunday, November 23, 2014 from 3-7 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.  A Service of Remembrance and Celebration of life will be held in Union Congregational Church, 55 Rhoades Ave, East Walpole on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 10:30 AM.  Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Walpole. Memorial Donations can be made to Union Congregational Church 55 Rhoades Ave, East Walpole, MA 02032.
