Lloyd Paul Smith, age 96, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Roxbury. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on August 23, 1925, he was the son of the late Wylie L. and Bessie M. (Paul) Smith.
Lloyd proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations aboard the USS LST 747, taking part in the liberation of the Philippines. Lloyd was honorably discharged in March of 1946, having attained the rank of Yeoman Second Class.
Upon his return home from the Navy, Lloyd enrolled in courses at Boston University, first earning his bachelors degree and later earning his law degree. He went on to open his own practice, The Law Office of Lloyd P. Smith. As an accomplished lawyer, Lloyd regularly volunteered his time at the Probate Court in Canton, helping anyone in need. As proud veteran, Lloyd always went out of his was to help fellow veterans, who were in need of some legal counsel. Following his retirement, Lloyd continued to help veterans, volunteering at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury.
Beloved husband of Rosemary (Coughlin) Smith.
Loving father of Anton L. Smith and his wife, Deborah, of New Bedford and Arthur D. Smith and his wife, Emma, of Rochester.
Cherished grandfather of Lindsay, Kristin, Anton, Laura, Elizabeth, and the late Cynthia; and great grandfather of several great grandchildren.
Brother of the late George W. Smith.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Lloyd's visitation on Thursday, June 9, 2022, from 4 to 7 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.
All are invited to gather in the funeral home on Friday, June 10, 2022, at 9:30 AM, prior to Lloyd's Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole at 10:30 AM. Interment will take place privately in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lloyd's name may be made to: Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
