Kevin M. Darcy, age 67, of Norfolk, Massachusetts, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020 in the Norwood Hospital. Born in Waltham, Massachusetts on November 15, 1952, he was the son of the late John and Doris M. (Belliveau) Darcy. He was raised in Waltham, where he graduated from Waltham High School with the Class of 1970. Following his graduation, Kevin took a position with BayBank for a short time before taking a job with Charlie Shaw's Gas Station.
While his home was in Waltham, Kevin looked forward to spending his summer months at the Shady Knoll Campground in Brewster on Cape Cod. It was during one of his camping adventures that he met his soon to be wife, Karen A. Kirchoff, who was visiting Cape Cod from Michigan. Kevin and Karen were married on September 27, 1980 in her hometown of Detroit. The young couple made their home together in Natick, Massachusetts and Kevin took a position with UPS, working the overnight shift, loading trucks. In 1982, Kevin welcomed his son, Michael, and in the late 1980s, he moved his family to the small town of Norfolk, Massachusetts. Kevin continued working at UPS, becoming a driver and eventually a supervisor, however, after 18 years, he decided it was time for a change. He found his new career, working as a warehouse manager, with the BT Office Supply Company in Newton. He later went on to serve as the warehouse manager of Comap in Lexington and Kaufman Co. in Norwood, before retiring from Bainbridge International's Canton location in 2018.
In addition to his official jobs, Kevin's skills as a woodworker led him to many projects in his basement shop where he enjoyed crafting items for his family and friends over the years. His work did not end in his shop, however, as he was always the first to volunteer to paint a room in his house and made sure his lawn was perfectly mowed.
While Kevin stayed busy with his job and projects around his home, he always found time to have some fun. Throughout his life, Kevin loved music, and could be found in his favorite chair with headphones on while playing solitaire. He also enjoyed live music, taking in shows at Chan's Egg Rolls Jazz and Blues in Woonsocket and Jasper Hill in Millis. In addition to his vast Blues and Classic Rock collection, Kevin maintained a collection of well-loved books that he had spent countless hours reading over the years.
As a man who loved nature, he looked forward to hiking trips with his family, especially to Acadia National Park in Maine. Back at home, he enjoyed watching the local wildlife and kept a clear line of sight on the hummingbirds in his yard. Kevin also had an appreciation for man-made machines, specifically classic cars, and attended many cruise nights at Bass Pro Shop at Patriot Place in Foxborough.
Most of all, Kevin was dedicated to his family. He loved attending and hosting family gatherings, both locally and with his wife's family out in Michigan. Nothing made him happier than spending time on his porch with his son, Mike, solving the world's problems over a cold Sam Adams.
Beloved husband of Karen A. (Kirchoff) Darcy.
Loving father of Michael K. Darcy of Norfolk.
Brother of Brian J. Darcy and his wife, Suzanne, of Waltham and Debra M. Pelletier and her husband, Ron, of Waltham.
Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for Kevin's visitation that will be held on Friday, June 26th, 2020 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. At the request of Kevin's family, his funeral service and interment will be private.
