Kenneth B. Treen

May 8, 1930 — November 27, 2015

Kenneth B. Treen, age 85, passed away in his Walpole, Massachusetts home on Friday, November 27, 2015. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on May 8, 1930, he was the son of the late Ira M. and Anna (Matheson) Treen. He was raised in Walpole and graduated from the Norfolk County Agricultural High School with the class of 1949. After graduation, Ken took a position working at the Walpole Woodworkers.

As the Korean War began to escalate, in 1953 Ken was called to the United States Army to serve his country in its time of need. He was stationed with the B Company, 118th Engineer Battalion, 43rd Infantry Division and spent a year overseas in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1953. After proudly serving his country, Ken returned to work at the Walpole Woodworkers, and his beloved Town of Walpole.

In 1954, Ken and his father went into business together, opening Treen's Evergreen Nursery at the corner of High Plain Street and Old Post Road. While working a landscaping job, he met his soon to be wife, Judy, as she walked to work. After being pushed together by mutual friends, they were married in June 17, 1956. Ken and Judy made their home together in Walpole and together they owned and operated Treen's for 55 years. One of Ken's favorite times of the year was when he sold Christmas Trees to families in Walpole, while he and Judy made wreaths.

Ken enjoyed being outdoors, as a young father, he loved taking his family skiing and as he found his passion for golf, he joined the Walpole Country Club. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes and cribbage. As an avid bowler, Ken was a member of the Treen's Nursery Team when he bowled at P.J. Lanes in Walpole and later joined the Norwood Overhead Door Team while bowling in the Norwood Sports Center. Ken would regularly meet friends for coffee at Country Kitchen and enjoy meals at the Red Wing. However above all, Ken cherished the time that he spent with his beloved wife, Judy. Together they loved to travel and took many cruises.

Beloved husband of the late Judith K. (Leavitt) Treen.
Loving father of Alice Groves of Dedham and Jeffrey Treen of Dennisport.
Cherished grandfather of Jeff, Jill, Jacci, Amber, Jason, Lucas, and Brian.
