Kathleen Marie (McCann) Fitzgibbon, age 69, of Walpole, MA passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at her home in Walpole, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 10, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Leo P. and Rita A. (Walsh) McCann. Kathy was raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, but spent her summers on the shores of Lake Wentworth at her family's camp in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Following her graduation from Cambridge High and Latin School in 1971, Kathy continued her education at Bunker Hill College. She went on to take a position with Bank of Boston.
After welcoming her daughter, Michelle, Kathy returned to her education, earning a certificate in computer programming. With her certificate in hand, Kathy took a position with the Digital Programming Services, Inc (DPSI) Waltham office in 1980. While working at DPSI, Kathy met her husband-to-be, Robert T. Fitzgibbon, who was persistent in asking her out. They were married on September 8, 1985, at Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Medford and made their home together in East Walpole, Massachusetts. Two years later, the couple welcomed their daughter, Colleen, and Kathy took a part-time position with Corona Curtin on Boston Wharf, working as a contract computer programmer. As Kathy and Bob were expecting their son, Bobby, they saw the need for a larger home and moved their family across town to a house just outside Walpole center. With two young children in her home, Kathy decided to change careers, spending her days with Colleen and Bobby and her nights working as an administrative assistant at Shields Healthcare's Cambridge MRI. Realizing that she preferred to work with people, Kathy once more returned to her education, taking courses to become a home health aide. She took a job with the Walpole Area VNA, offering services to her patients in their homes. After being involved in an unfortunate car accident while traveling to see one of her patients, Kathy decided to return to office work, taking a position with Bloomsouth Flooring in Canton. She began as an administrative assistant before transitioning into the role of office manager and executive assistant, working until the company's transition in 2007. Kathy took her office skill set to the Fred V. Fowler Company in Newtonville, where she worked until her unofficial retirement in 2016. She stayed on for an additional year as a contract worker, helping the company adapt to her retirement.
Throughout her life, Kathy enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether around Lake Wentworth or Winnipesaukee, where she and her family eventually bought their own cabin. She also enjoyed spending a weekend in the woods at one of her favorite campgrounds, with her husband, children, and friends. Back at home, Kathy enjoyed some quiet time, cross stitching, and quilting to adorn her house or finding a new mystery or romance novel to share with friends. Most of all, Kathy loved being surrounded by her family and friends. She was an avid storyteller who always got a laugh from the reactions around the room.
