Joseph T. Walsh age 89 years died in the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts on Thursday, February 25, 2010. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on April 21, 1920; he was the son of the late Francis J. and Mary A. (Downey) Walsh. He graduated from Walpole High School with the class of 1938. He was an All Star Hockey Player and is the last surviving member of the 1938 Bay State League Hockey Championship Team. Mr. Walsh served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. He was stationed in the Southwest Pacific with the 99th Signal Battalion. He was a lifelong resident of Diamond Street in Walpole, Massachusetts.
He worked as a repairman for the New England Telephone Company for 36 years retiring in 1982. After retirement he worked at the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home in Walpole.
Mr. Walsh was a member of the Sharon Country Club and was the 1947 Walpole Country Club Champion. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Beloved husband of M. Jane (Flynn) Walsh. Loving father of J. Timothy Walsh, Jr. of Norfolk, Michael D. Walsh of Millis, and Gerald F. Walsh of Norfolk. Cherished grandfather of 5 grandsons. Brother of the late Francis J. Walsh, Jr.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church East Street (Route 27) at Diamond Street on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Visiting hours are ommited at the request of the family . Interment in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts. Memorial donations may be made to: MT.
