Joseph E. Viscardi

Joseph E. Viscardi, age 81, passed away in his Walpole, Massachusetts home, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 11, 2018. Born in Mansfield, Massachusetts on April 1, 1937, he was the son of the late Erimino Viscardi and Virginia A. (Hodges) Viscardi. Joseph was raised and educated in Mansfield, where he played as center on the Mansfield High School football team, The Hornets, before his graduation. After high school, Joe enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during the Korean War. He was stationed as an aviator jet mechanic, aboard the USS Ranger, prior to his honorable discharge in January of 1958.

Upon his return from the Navy, Joe settled back in his hometown of Mansfield and began his career as a pressman working for the Plimpton Press in Norwood. Soon after, he married the love of his life, Maria Caporizzo on October 10, 1959. The couple settled in Canton for one year and then made their home together in Walpole, where they raised their family. Joe continued in his career as a pressman, working in various print houses, including, Simline Printing in Braintree, Haliday Lithograph in Plympton, and Colonial Press in Clinton, before retiring from Courier Press in Stoughton in 2002.

Joe was a devoted member of his Walpole Community, maintaining an active role in various organizations. He was a proud Navy veteran and enjoyed spending time with the other veterans of Walpole at the VFW, Post 5188 and the veterans of the surrounding area at the American Legion. As a man with strong roots based in his Italian culture, Joe joined the Sons of Italy and the Italian American Club in Walpole, where he spent countless evenings playing in the bocce league. Above all, Joe was devoted to his faith, and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus first in Mansfield and later in Walpole.

Throughout his life, Joe was an avid collector of antiques and especially enjoyed finding old Buffalo Nickels. As an enthusiastic football fan, Joe spent many years managing the semiprofessional football team, the Hockomock Colts, in Mansfield and was a long-time seasons ticket holder of the New England Patriots.

Caring father of Barbara V. Santos and her partner Yolanda V. Santos of Florida, Carol A. Younes of Cumberland, Rhode Island, Joseph E. Viscardi and his wife Catherine of Franklin, and Michael P. Viscardi and his wife Denise of Foxborough.
Cherished grandfather of Yamaya T. Jean of Cumberland, Rhode Island and Michael E. Schell of Waynesville, Missouri.
Loving brother to the late Albert F. Viscardi.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Joe's Life Celebration on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 4 to 8 PM and Friday, November 16, 2018 from 9:30 to 10:15 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, 330 Pratt Street, Mansfield on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Mansfield. Memorial contributions may be made in Joseph's memory to the Italian American Club, 109 Stone Street, Walpole MA 02081.
