MR. JOSEPH R. OLSHAN AGE 76 DIED IN THE NEW ENGLAND SINAI HOSPITAL IN STOUGHTON, MASSACHUSETTS ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON MARCH 4TH, 2006, FROM COMPLICATIONS OF EMHYSEMA.
He was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania and graduated from saint Francis Preparatory School in Spring Grove, Pennsylvania. From Boston College and the New England School of Law. He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1958.
Mr. Olshan was Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for the Factory Mutual Engineering and Research Corporations and Secretary to their Board of Directors in Norwood. Following his retirement after 28 years of service in 1992, he became the Executive Director for the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, an international organization of defense and corporate attorneys. He held this position for over ten years until 2002.
Mr. Olshan served with the 40th Infantry Division of the United States Army in Korea during 1953 into 1954.
While living in Norwood he served as a Town Meeting Member for many years, a member of the Norwood School Committee, Zoning Board of Appeals, Conservation Committee, Permanent Building Committee, and Chairman of the Oldham Elementary School Building Committee. While living in Walpole he served on the Board of directors of the Friends on the Walpole Council on Aging. In 1981 he was listed in the Insurance Section of Who's Who in American Law. In 1984 he moved to Walpole, after 30 years in Norwood, where he has resided with his wife of 54 years Virginia.
Beloved husband of Virginia I. (Kuczin) Olshan. Loving father of Gary P. Olshan of Newton Center, David M. Olshan of Newton, Nancy M. and her husband Stephen Paige of West Boylston, and Patricia A. Olshan of Boston. Cherished grandfather of Rachel Paige, Laura Paige and Emily Paige, all of West Boylston. Brother of the late Virginia M. Olshan Also survived by his sheltie dog April.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the hour of visitation in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole on Wednesday Morning, March 8th, 2006 from 8:30 to 9:30am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Blessed Sacrament Church Walpole @10AM. Interment in Knollwood Memorial Park Canton.
