Joseph James Mayne

Joseph James Mayne, Jr. age 87 died in his Norfolk, Massachusetts home on Friday, March 22, 2013. Born in Medford, Massachusetts on July 31, 1925, he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Madolyn (Holland) Mayne. He graduated from Malden Catholic High School with the class of 1943. After graduation, Mr. Mayne proudly served his country in the 34th Bomb Group 8th Air Force as a navigator during World War II. He retired from the Air Force as a Major in 1985. After serving his country Mr. Mayne attended Boston College for 2 years. He was a resident of Norfolk, Massachusetts for the past 15 years moving from Centerville.

He was the vice president at the M.L. McDonald Painting Company in Watertown for 25 years, retiring in 1988. After his retirement, he obtained a Commercial Fisherman's License and began shell fishing on Cape Cod.

Mr. Mayne was active as a coach in Malden Youth Hockey, a member of the West Side Athletic Association in Malden, and the Knights of Columbus in Peabody.

He enjoyed gardening, fin and shell fishing, and was an avid sports fan.

Beloved husband of 64 years of Helen T. (Boland) Mayne. Loving father of Dennis J. Mayne and his wife Jill of Westboro, Donna M. Anderson and her husband Robert of Norfolk, Richard P. Mayne of Malden, Joseph Mayne and his wife Grace of Bedford, and Paula Mayne of Medford. Cherished grandfather of Douglas and Kristina Mayne, Peter Anderson and Lindsay Coldwell, Andrew, Gregory, Jeffrey, and Christopher Mayne, Brandi Rand, and great grandfather of Samantha. Brother of Rosemary Gualtieri and her husband Sam of Falmouth, the late Robert Mayne, and the late Thomas Mayne. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visiting hour in Saint Jude's Church 86 Main Street Norfolk on Monday, March 25, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in the Church at 12:00 Noon. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
