Joseph P. Geraghty

August 11, 1932 — July 11, 2016

Joseph P. Geraghty, age 83, passed away peacefully in the Milford Regional Medical Center in Milford, Massachusetts on Monday, July 11, 2016. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on August 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Irma (Schoener) Geraghty. He was raised in Westwood, Massachusetts and was educated in the Westwood Public Schools before attending Boston Trade High School. After his high school graduation in 1950, Joe attended The Huntington School, and then went on to study at the University of Maine at Orono.

Joe took a position with the Ludlow Manufacturing Company in Needham, where he met his soon to be wife, Joan M. Hyland. They were married on May 10, 1958 in Saint Mary's Church in Brookline and initially settled in Norwood. The young couple made their home in Walpole in 1959 and Joe took a position with Raytheon as a chemical engineer in the late sixties . In 1964, after welcoming his children, Joe moved his young family to Norwood, where he would spend the next 34 years.

Joe picked up his love for boating as a young man, soon becoming the commodore of the South Shore Yacht Club. Anytime he had the opportunity to spend time with his family on his boats over the years was truly cherished by Joe. As his children grew older, Joe found an interest in golf, becoming a member of the Sharon Country Club and later the Foxboro Country Club.

Over the years, Joe's career advanced with Raytheon where he became a Principle Scientist managing the Printed Circuit Board prototype lab. He retired in 1998, just after he and Joan moved to Walpole. After retirement, he and Joan became snow birds, spending the winters together in Naples, Florida and in 2000 settled in Franklin, Massachusetts.

He was always tinkering with something in his basement, which usually turned into a project that could last for hours, if not days. Joe loved fishing and taking his wife, Joan, out to dinner. However, it was spending time with his grandchildren that brought him the most joy, bringing a big smile to his face
