Joseph Paul DeYesso of Walpole, age 83, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1941, he was the son of the late Louis and Margaret (Iorio) DeYesso.
He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 60 years, Carol A. (Scoff) DeYesso and his son, Paul DeYesso, wife Charlotte of Brookline; son, Joseph DeYesso, wife Susan of Sellersville, Pennsylvania; and daughter, Nicole D. Aparo, husband Paul of Franklin. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Katherine, Thomas and Michael DeYesso, and Lily and Justin Aparo.
Joe also leaves behind his brothers, Louis DeYesso of Brewster and Michael DeYesso of Arizona and his sister, Jean Thompson of Florida as well as several loving nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sisters, Margaret Bonnano and Mary McCarthy and brothers, Pasquale DeYesso and Daniel DeYesso.
Joe was raised in West Roxbury and attended Boston Latin School. There, he was a standout athlete on the football field and is a member of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Following his graduation, he continued his studies at Northeastern University, earning undergraduate and master’s degrees in engineering. He went on to have a fulfilling and distinguished career as an engineer, first at Honeywell Corporation, then Data General and finally EMC Corporation.
An avid gardener, he loved being outdoors, especially at the family home on Cape Cod. He also enjoyed fishing and would organize a yearly family fishing trip on the waters of Cape Cod Bay.
Before there was such a thing as Google, there was "Ask Joe," with friends and family often seeking him out for his vast and varied knowledge in nearly any field. His constant quest for learning made him an incredible resource for all. Those who knew him lovingly gave him the title “Knowologist." Not one to take many photos, Joe used his mind's eye to remember almost everything he saw and encountered in life. While he was a wealth of information, he also had some of the best one-liners, bringing a smile to the faces of those around him, coining various "Joe-isms" over the years.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. Interment will take place privately at the request of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory may be made to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org).
