Joseph Eugene Chitvanni, "Joe Cigars" age 74, passed away peacefully in the Newton Wellesley Hospital on Monday, January 29, 2018. Born in Hyde Park, Massachusetts on October 12, 1943, he was the son of the late Eugene J. Chitvanni and Nicholette (Carbone) Baltadonis. He was raised in Walpole, Massachusetts and as a standout athlete, he played both basketball and baseball at Walpole High School, before graduating with the Class of 1961.
After graduation, Joe began his career in construction with Al Cisternelli's company, Cisternelli and Sons, where a few short years later, he earned his nickname, Joe Cigars. Twenty years later, Joe went into business with Brad Brooks, working as a general contractor, forming Braddock Homes. In 1986, Joe and Brad formed another partnership, purchasing a restaurant in East Walpole and opening 204 Washington.
Joe married his beloved wife, Patricia, on June 24, 1988 and they made their home in Walpole. Joe and Pat loved spending time together and enjoyed dining out.
While he officially retired in 2016, Joe enjoyed spending time at 204, interacting with all the patrons and spending time with his extended 204 family.
In his younger years, Joe enjoyed playing card games at the EWAC in East Walpole. He had a love for the game of golf and is a retired member of the Walpole Country Club, where he spent countless hours on the course.
Joe's family wishes to thank the nursing staff and palliative care team at Newton Wellesley Hospital and the Vernon Cancer Center for all their compassionate care.

Devoted stepfather of Lee Ann DiRienzo and her husband William of Plainville.
Loving brother of Alice M. Schoots and her husband Peter of North Carolina, John W. Chitvanni and his wife Valerie of Georgia, and Eugene J. "Gino" Chitvanni and his wife Patricia of East Walpole.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Joe's Life Celebration on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 4-8 PM and Friday, February 2, 2018 from 11-11:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary's Church, 176 Washington Street, East Walpole on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
