John Edward Teevens, age 95, passed away peacefully in the Sunrise of Norwood Assisted Living Center on Saturday, December 9, 2017. Born in Malden, Massachusetts on December 20, 1921, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Anna Beatrice (Miles) Teevens. He was raised in Malden and graduated from high school in 1942. Just after graduation, John enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country during World War II. He was stationed with the 82nd Airborne and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged in August of 1945. Upon his discharged he returned to his hometown of Malden.
John met his soon to be wife, Marion Grace Scott, while they were both working in a hotel in Boca Grande, Florida in 1946. They were married on December 4, 1947, making their home in Sharon. After settling in Sharon, John took a position with the Plimpton Press in Norwood and worked nights at the Bay State Raceway, which later became the Foxboro Raceway. After watching many races, John decided to purchase a race horse named "Bay State So Good" with some other men from the track. It was a short-lived venture as the horse regularly left the track to get ahead of the rest of the horses.
In his younger years, John learned how to downhill ski in the North Conway, New Hampshire area. He frequently walked to the top of a hill and took only one trip down, however as he welcomed his children, Marianne and John, Jr. later in his life, John would take his family on ski trips back to the North Conway area to teach them how to ski. On these trips, multiple trips were made down the mountains after purchasing lift ticket. After retirement, John and his wife Marion enjoyed winters in Okeechobee & Hobe Sound, Florida, where John would regularly take his Bass Tracker boat out fishing. While John enjoyed spending time traveling, his true home was in Sharon, Massachusetts. He was a charter member of the Sharon Yacht Club, enjoyed wind surfing on the lake and loved spending time caring for the yard around his home.
Beloved husband of the late Marion Grace (Scott) Teevens.
