John H. Slade

June 12, 1964 — February 24, 2014

John Henderson ("Jay") Slade, III, 49, passed away on February 24, 2014. Jay spent his earliest years in Manomet, his formative years in Walpole and resided most recently in Foxboro.

Jay was the second of three children and the only son of John and Jackie Slade. He graduated from Walpole High School in 1982, where he was a member of the marching band, played guitar in a band formed with several school friends, and, with his sister and best friends, was a loyal fan and follower of the Grateful Dead. After graduation, he studied music at University of Miami. While music and Mother Earth were his passions, Jay ultimately apprenticed and worked for a number of years as an electrician.

Jay was an avid environmentalist and inveterate animal lover. He was a gentle minimalist who loved natural fibers and organic foods, who was extraordinarily kind and caring with animals and his plants, and who was fiercely loyal to his loyal friends and appreciative of his family a'" as we were of him.

Jay was preceded in death by his father, John Slade II. He is survived by his loving mother, Jackie Slade of Mattapoisett; his sisters, Susan Garstang of Marion and Stacey Morin and her husband Tim of Walpole; his nieces and nephew Sarah Smith, Tori Morin, Casey Garstang, Colby Garstang and Tyler Garstang; 4 uncles, 3 aunts, 8 cousins; and best friends Kelly Howard and Paul Foley. Jay was a much loved and spiritual presence in our lives, a presence by which we sometimes were challenged but always were blessed.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Jay's Life Celebration on Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 2-6PM and Monday, March 3, 2014 from 8-8:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church 10 Diamond Street Walpole on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 9:00AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202.
