John A. "Jake" Sarnie, age 78 years, died in the Norwood Hospital on Monday, October 28, 2013. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 13, 1935, he was the son of the late George E. and Gladys V. (Lucas) Sarnie. He was raised in Roslindale and graduated from Boston English High School with the class of 1953, where he played football and won the Championship in 1950. Jake has been a resident of Walpole since 1971 moving from Roslindale.
Jake spent his working career as a tile setter, and was employed by Bricklayers and Masons Union Local #3 for 50 years. After his retirement, he continued working on estimates for Commonwealth Tile.
He volunteered his time for Meals on Wheels and to drive cancer patients to their hospital appointments. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Beloved husband of the late Marilyn A. (Steele) Sarnie. Loving father of John A. Sarnie, Jr. of Franklin, George F. Sarnie and his wife Gail of Walpole, and Teresa Sarnie of Walpole. Cherished grandfather of Ashley Sarnie, Katherine Sarnie, Nicholas Sarnie, Shawn Sarnie, Derek Sarnie, Anthony Kippenberger, and Marilyn Kippenberger. Brother of the late Joyce A. Antonetti. Brother in law of Joan Sullivan of Walpole and Elaine "Bunny" Balabanis of Walpole. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Jake's Life Celebration on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 4-8PM and Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 9-9:30AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Timothy's Church Norwood on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 10AM. Interment will be in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, c/o HESSCO 1 Merchant St., Sharon, MA 02067.
