John A. Redmond, age 87, passed away peacefully in his Brewster, Massachusetts home on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on October 5, 1928, he was the son of the late Clement and Helen (Stanton) Redmond. He was raised in Belmont and graduated from Belmont High School with the Class of 1946. Shortly after graduation, John enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in March of 1952 as a Storekeeper Second Class. As a proud disabled veteran, John joined the American Legion and began taking courses at the University of Massachusetts at Stockbridge on the GI Bill.
While still on active duty in the Navy, John met his soon to be wife, Nancy Draper, on a train bound for California. They were married on June 26, 1954 and made their home together in Sharon, where they raised their family. Shortly thereafter, John earned a position with the United States Postal Service in Sharon, working as a letter carrier. He served the Town of Sharon for 42 years, retiring in 1996.
In 1997, after his retirement, John and Nancy settled in Brewster, where as an avid gardener, John took great pride in his flowers that he grew around his home. As a man who loved staying active, he could be found riding the Cape Cod Bike Path in the early morning hours, and on occasion all the way out to Wellfleet, or swimming in Willy's Gym in Eastham. John was incredibly proud of his Irish Heritage and traveled, alongside Nancy, to Ireland over 30 times in the course of his life. Above all, nothing made John happier than spending time with his granddaughter, Kara.
Beloved husband of 63 years of Nancy D. (Draper) Redmond.
Loving father of Kimberly and her husband Paul Bowen of Foxboro and Kyle and his wife Karen Redmond of East Walpole.
Cherished grandfather of Kara Moran and her husband Michael of Lynnfield and great grandfather of Madison Moran.
Brother of Helen Pennell of Weston, the late Elizabeth Redmond, Patricia Redmond, and the late Ursula McLaughlin.
Also survived by 3 nieces and 1 nephew.
