John J. Orecchio

John J. Orecchio, age 85 years, died in Sunrise of Norwood, on Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 18, 1927, he was the son of the late Luigi and Christina (Modestino) Orecchio. He graduated from Charlestown High School with the class of 1944. After graduation, John proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He served aboard the USS Adirondack, the USS Wyoming, and the USS Mississippi as a Fire Control Man 1st Class. He continued his education at Northeastern University and graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering with the class of 1954. In 1959, John was commissioned as an Officer in the US Naval Reserve Intelligence Unit. He retired from the Intelligence Unit as a Commander on September 30, 1987, having worked on intelligence projects through both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. John earned his MBA from Northeastern University in 1966. He has been a resident of Walpole, Massachusetts for 50 years and most recently he was living at Sunrise in Norwood.

John worked on various Military Electronic Projects for many companies. He began his career at Avco, moving on to Raytheon, and finally retiring from General Dynamics in Taunton in 1992. In his retirement, he volunteered at the Norwood Hospital in the Finance Department.

He was a member of the Italian American Club in Walpole, the Norwood Men's Club, and was a devoted member of Saint Mary's Church in East Walpole.

John enjoyed reading non fiction books, working with computers, and investing. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Ogunquit, Maine and taking several cruises.

Beloved husband of the late Anne D. (Ciriello) Orecchio. Loving father of Michael L. and his wife Sheila Orecchio of Attleboro, John V. Orecchio of Walpole, and David P. and his wife Lisa Orecchio of Walpole. Cherished grandfather of Michelle and her husband Matthew Perkins of Attleboro, Thomas Orecchio of Attleboro, Paul Orecchio of Walpole, and Brian Orecchio of Walpole. Brother of Anthony and his wife Florence Orecchio of Medford, Nicholas and his wife Dorothy Orecchio of Longmeadow, and Mary Orecchio of South Boston. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend John's Life Celebration on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 from 4-8 PM and Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 8-8:30AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary's Church 176 Washington Street East Walpole on Wednesday at 9:00 AM. Interment will be in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Epilepsy Research Fund, c/o Donald L. Schomer, MD, 330 Brookline Avenue, BA 504, Boston, MA 02215.
