John E. Miller

July 25, 1929 — March 6, 2014

John E. Miller, age 84 years, died in the Roscommon on the Parkway in West Roxbury on Thursday, March 6, 2014. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 25, 1929, he was the son of the late Mark and Mary (O'Hanley) Miller. He was currently a resident of West Roxbury and was a prior resident of Roslindale. He proudly served his country in the United States Army During World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Underage Military Service, the youngest soldiers serving during World War II. He joined the Army at the age of 15, providing a driver's license and birth certificate showing he was 2 years older than his actual age. John wanted to join his three older brothers, who were serving in the Army and Navy. His varied assignments in the Army included guard duty at the Nuremberg Trials. As a disabled veteran, John was very proud of his service.

John was the head of maintenance for the Boston Police Department for many years.

He was a member of the Dedham VFW, the American Legion in Dedham, and the BPOE (Elks) in West Roxbury. He loved dancing with Mary and entertaining with friends at the Randolph VFW Post.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend John's Life Celebration on Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 3-6 PM and Monday, March 10, 2014 from 9-9:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church 10 Diamond Street Walpole on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VFW Post 2017, 84 Eastern Avenue, Dedham, MA 02026, Attn: Dana McQuaid.
