John F. McNeil, age 81, passed away in the Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence, Massachusetts on Saturday, October 29, 2016. Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, he was the son of the late John R. and Edwina (Campbell) McNeil. John spent his early years and most of his teenage life in Cape Breton, where he received his formal education. At the age of 16, John moved with his family to the Roxbury area of Boston, Massachusetts and took a position with the Jordan Marsh Company. He later began working at Stowe Woodward in Newton, manufacturing bowling balls.
John married the love of his life, Evangeline M. McPherson, on February 4, 1956. Together, they made their home in Boston, most notably spending several years in Hyde Park. John earned a position with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and later moved his family to Walpole, Massachusetts in 1972. He retired as a supervisor for the MBTA in 1995 after 27 years of dedicated service.
He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, originally joining the Readville Council, where he served as Grand Knight for many years, and after moving he transferred his membership to the Walpole Council. John was an avid skier and loved hitting the slopes with his family. In his retirement, he and Evangeline enjoyed traveling together. Recently, in August of 2014, John settled into his new home in Groveland, Massachusetts.

Loving father of Suzanne C.M. Meyer and her husband Peter of Reading and J. Ralph McNeil and his wife Susan of Groveland.
Cherished grandfather of Emma McNeil, Duncan T. McNeil, the late Patrick McDonough, and the late Thomas McDonough and great grandfather of Declan McDonough.
Brother of the late Harold "Eddie" McNeil and Susan Griffin.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend John's visiting hours on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 9-11:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary's Church, 176 Washington Street, East Walpole on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Ability Plus, P.O. Box 308, Bartlett, NH 03812.
