John G. "Jerry" McNamara, age 70, passed away in the Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts on Thursday, July 28, 2016. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 15, 1945, he was the son of the late John and Jessie (MacDougall) McNamara. He was raised in Jamaica Plain and attended Our Lady of Lourdes School as a boy. Jerry went on to graduate from Boston English High School with the Class of 1963. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army Reserve, ready to serve his country in a moments notice.
Thankfully, Jerry's unit was never called to active duty, and he found work as an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 103 in Boston. He met his soon to be wife, Marie K. May in 1971 and they were married on September 27, 1975 in Saint Bernadette's Church in Randolph. Jerry and Marie made their home together in Westwood, but loved spending their summers at their home in South Yarmouth in the Bass River Neighborhood. Jerry welcomed his son, Sean, in 1989 and shortly after moved his young family to Walpole, Massachusetts.
In 1990, Jerry took a position as an electrician with the MBTA. He retired in 2010, after 20 years of dedicated service and over 40 years in the electrical field. In his retirement, he found more time to spend at the beach or to work on his 1967 Corvette Stingray. As an avid "car guy," Jerry loved spending the afternoon checking out classic car shows and firing up his Corvette to go to a local cruise night with his son, Sean.
As a devoted family man, he kept a busy social calendar with his wife, Marie and their friends. They loved going out to dinner and even though he wasn't much of a dancer, always enjoyed taking Marie out to a local club for a night of dancing in their younger years. Teaching Sean how to fish was a memory that Jerry treasured. They spent countless hours at the Bass River and Smuggler's Beach and while they may not have caught the Big Bass, the time spent together created a bond between them. The yearly McNamara family Christmas party was not an event to be missed. Jerry, known as "Uncle Jerry" to most of the kids, loved hosting, It gave him a chance to gather his family and friends together to celebrate the holiday season.
