John Francis McCabe

John Francis McCabe, who had just celebrated his 34th birthday, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. Born in Newton, MA, John was the beloved son of David F. and Nancy Hannigan McCabe of Medfield and the cherished brother of Kevin R. McCabe of South Boston. John was raised in Walpole but looked forward to spending summers on the Cape at his family’s home in East Falmouth. He graduated from Dean College in Franklin with a bachelor’s degree in business management.

Following his graduation, John took a position with DENS Facility Services working as a logistics coordinator. With his career on track, John made his home in Brookline and later settled in Southie. For the past five years, John worked at Ginkgo Bioworks on the drydock in the Seaport District of Boston and his most recent position was managing both domestic and international logistics.

John was a talented craftsman who enjoyed working with his hands - whether creating custom pieces from reclaimed wood or tackling finish carpentry projects at his home. His craftsmanship also followed him into the kitchen, where he could whip up a meal at a moment’s notice with just the ingredients in his fridge. He was known in his family as a grill master for his perfectly grilled steaks, chicken & freshly caught fish. According to his brother there was nothing better than his homemade mac and cheese. His nacho plates were not to be missed, as John loved using fresh tomatoes and jalapenos, right from his own garden.

John was a deeply creative soul and a self-taught photographer with a passion for travel. He had a gift for seeing beauty in unexpected places, and his photos captured moments with honesty, heart, and a quiet sense of wonder.

John looked forward to time spent with his family on Cape Cod, whether it was a golf weekend or spending an afternoon fishing for Bluefish or Seabass on Martha’s Vineyard Sound or traveling on his boat to Woods Hole or Cuttyhunk for a day of adventure. According to his father, John always knew just the spot to cast his line and often was the only one on the boat to catch any fish.

John found joy in the simple moments - spending time on Cape Cod, fishing, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and sharing laughs with those closest to him. He will be remembered for his kind heart, quiet strength, and the warmth he brought to those around him. He had a natural curiosity, a truly generous spirit, and a deep love for his family, especially his younger brother, Kevin and a close-knit group of friends.

At the request of his family, funeral services will be private. They kindly ask for privacy during this difficult time.
