John James Mahoney age 84 years died in his daughter's Westwood, Massachusetts home on Tuesday, May 19, 2009. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 15, 1924; he was the son of the late George L. and Mary (Carroll) Mahoney. He graduated from Dorchester High School with the class of 1943. Mr. Mahoney entered the United States Marine Corps and served his country during both World War II and the Korean War. He has been a resident of Walpole, Massachusetts for the past 34 years moving from Brighton, Massachusetts.
Mr. Mahoney worked for the City of Boston as a printing foreman for 32 years retiring in 1994.
He enjoyed watching the New England sports teams, especially the Red Sox and the Patriots; but he most especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Beloved husband of the late Dorothy K. (Powell) Mahoney. Loving father of Ellen T. and her husband Mark Quigley of Westwood, John J. Mahoney, Jr. of Peabody, Timothy and his wife Nadine Mahoney of Peabody, Carol A. and her husband Bruce McIntyre of Concord, Ohio, Dorothy K. and her husband Paul Whiffen of Taunton, and Peggy M. Mahoney of Walpole. Cherished grandfather of 9 and great grandfather of 1. Brother of the late Mary E. Nealon and George L. Mahoney. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated in Saint Timothy's Church Nichols Street Norwood on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 10AM. Visiting hours are Thursday, May 21, 2009 from 4-8PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. Interment is in Saint Francis Cemetery Walpole. Memorial donations may be made to Melmark New England School for Autistic Children 461 River Road Andover, MA 01810.
