John Lawrence Kelly

July 9, 1945 — March 7, 2016

John L. "Larry" "Jack" Kelly, age 70, passed away peacefully in the Brockton Veterans Administration Hospital on Monday, March 7, 2016. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 9, 1945, he was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Cathedral High School with the Class of 1963. He continued his education at Stonehill College, graduating with his Bachelor's Degree in 1967.

After graduation, Jack was called upon to serve his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army. He attended Officer Candidate School and served as an intelligence advisor to South Vietnamese Combat Troops. He was honorably discharged in August of 1970 as a 1st Lieutenant, after earning the Bronze Star.

Upon his return home from the Army, Jack settled back in his hometown of Boston, but was quickly recruited by the Drug Enforcement Administration. His first assignment called him to New York City, working as an undercover special agent. In 1972, he once again returned to Boston and began working out of the local field office. While he spent most of his career as an undercover operative, he later went on to teach at both the Massachusetts State Police Academy in New Braintree and the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He retired in 1995 with 23 years of dedicated service to the DEA.

Shortly after his retirement, Jack settled in Walpole and spent his days playing golf and enjoying fine cigars.
Devoted son of the late John I. and Alice E. (Bacon) Kelly.
Loving brother of Kevin Kelly of Walpole, Tim Kelly of Weymouth, and Gerard Kelly of Canton and the late Brian Kelly.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
