John F. Cusick

September 17, 1933 — March 9, 2023

John F. Cusick (Jack) age 89, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at his home in Lake Suzy, Florida surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 17, 1933.  Beloved husband to Ruth E. (Delaney) Cusick.  Loving father to Robert G. (Kim) Cusick of Northport, Florida, Lisa M. Cusick of Murietta, California, Karen L. Lee of Orange County, California, Michelle A. (Pete) Walsh of Norton, Massachusetts, Stephen J. (Andrea) Cusick of Port Charlotte, Florida, Jennifer L. (Sean) Wieda of Alexandria, Kentucky, and the late Paul G. Cusick and Allison R. Cusick.  Jack also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was the son of the late Robert and Irene Cusick, brother to Joan Morrissey of Cape Cod and the late Robert Cusick of Naples, Florida.

Raised in West Roxbury, Jack enlisted in the United States Army after graduating from Christopher Columbus High School. He served in Germany for four years and earned the rank of sergeant.  He was a tank commander and after earning many awards and medals, Jack once said he was driving his own tank before he held a driver’s license. Upon his return to Massachusetts in 1960, he married his beloved wife Ruth at Saint Teresa’s Church in West Roxbury. Jack received an associate degree in industrial engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology, then went on to Northeastern University for his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and continued to Framingham State University for a master’s degree. Jack and Ruth made their home in Walpole with their eight children.  Jack enjoyed his career as an Industrial Engineer working for the United States Department of Defense.

Jack was known as a family man who held honesty, integrity, and hard work above all.  He was humble, generous and had a great sense of humor.  When his children were young, during the holiday season, Jack would take on a second job at night to provide a beautiful Christmas for his family.  Later, as his grandchildren were born, Jack and Ruth would decorate their home with the biggest Christmas tree they could find and spoil them with love and gifts.  His children have many fond memories of day trips to historical sites in Boston, countless hikes to the Blue Hills, winter skating, summer barbeques, beaches, laughter, and fun.

The old classics, horror and war movies were his favorites and he loved to read biographies.  Jack was a huge New England Patriots fan.  He enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean and vacations in Naples, Maine, Cape Cod, and Florida.  His favorite city was Paris, France. Later in life he could be found holding Ruth’s hand watching television and reminiscing. He always told his kids, “The best thing I ever did was to marry your mother.” Jack was selfless and always had a smile on his face.
