John A. "Jack" Costello

June 25, 1946 — January 8, 2018

John A. "Jack" Costello, age 71, passed away peacefully in the Hellenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canton, Massachusetts on Monday, January 8, 2018. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on June 25, 1946, he was the son of the late Daniel and Janet (Foley) Costello. He was raised in Walpole, Massachusetts, where as a young boy, he loved playing football and baseball. Upon entering Walpole High School, Jack tried out for and made the school's football team. Shortly after his graduation in 1964, Jack was drafted into the United States Army. He honorably served his country, completing a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Upon his return home from the Army, Jack quickly found work as a machinist at the Commercial Gear and Sprocket Company in Walpole and was introduced to his wife to be, Joanne Whitecavage, in 1968 through a mutual friend. They were married on June 27, 1970 and together made their home in Norwood, Massachusetts. Two years later, the young couple settled in Sharon, Massachusetts, where they would raise their children, Joe and Jen.

While Jack was dedicated to his career, he knew how to have fun too. He loved fishing, mostly freshwater, but took some memorable deep-sea fishing trips as well. During the third week of July, Jack took his family to Point Sebago in Maine, where they would enjoy spending time with friends on the lake. As their family grew up, Jack and Joanne began taking trips to Las Vegas and Foxwoods, to try their hands at poker. Jack enjoyed spending time at home as well, holding Saturday night card games, playing competitive rounds of bocce, or following his beloved Boston Sports Teams.

Beloved husband of Joanne (Whitecavage) Costello.
Loving father of Joseph M. Costello and his wife Jessica of Easton and Jennifer A. Kelleher and her husband Gavin of Sharon.
Cherished grandfather of Colin, Brendan, Ashlyn, and Vivienne.
Brother of Catherine Day of Foxborough, Margaret Nash of Attleboro, Patrick Costello of Brockton, the late Daniel Costello, Mary Brown, A. James Costello, Francis Costello, and Robert Costello.
