John J. Costa, 87, died Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, after a long period of declining health. Born in Boston, he was raised in Dorchester and was a graduate of Boston Schools. In October of 1964, he married Mary Bernadette “Bernie” McLaughlin and together they spent 37 years of marriage and raised three beloved children in Roslindale. They moved to Westwood in 1993. After Bernie’s death in 2001, he later moved to Walpole with his daughter Terri and her family in 2004. John worked for Polaroid in Norwood for over 30 years and retired at age 62. As a young man, he worked as a Barber in the Fenway area for many years. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling to Foxwoods with the Milpar Senior Center in Hyde Park. John was a loving, dedicated, and supportive grandfather and rarely missed an event for his grandchildren. Whether at a sporting event, birthday or school event, he was always there to cheer on his grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his beloved family.
John was the beloved father of John J. Costa and his wife Leslee of FL, Theresa S. Duffy and her husband Timothy of Walpole and Maria J. Daniels and her husband Benjamin of Norfolk. He was the grandfather of Kristina, John, Joseph, Justin, Timothy, Abigail, Jack, Jessica, Christopher and Jennifer and the great grandfather of LJ. In addition to his wife, John was predeceased by his brothers Francis and Leo Costa.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend John’s visitation on Sunday, February 26, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 10 AM. Interment will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to Donate Life America, 5516 Falmouth St., Suite 302, Richmond, VA 23230.
