Joanne Costello

August 15, 1944 — April 27, 2022

Joanne (Whitecavage) Costello, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, Massachusetts.  Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on August 15, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha (Masawicz) Whitecavage.  She was raised in Norwood, where she graduated from Norwood High School with the Class of 1962.  Following her graduation, Joanne took a position with Plimpton Press in Norwood, where she formed lifelong friendships with her co-workers.

While working at Plimpton Press, Joanne was introduced by one of her close friends to John A. Costello, beginning their love story.  Joanne and Jack were married on June 27, 1970, and together made their home in Norwood.  In 1972, Joanne and Jack settled in Sharon, Massachusetts, where they raised their two children, Joseph and Jennifer.  After welcoming her children, Joanne took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her young family.  However, as Joe and Jen grew up, she returned to her working career, taking a secretarial position with Cushman and Associates in Sharon.  A few years later, she took a position with Commercial Gear and Sprocket in Walpole, working as the office manager, where her husband, Jack, was a machinist.

In her spare time, Joanne was an avid reader, breezing through countless mystery and romance novels, which she always handed off to other family members to enjoy.  She also enjoyed playing video poker, taking trips to Las Vegas and Foxwoods to try her luck.  Back at home, Joanne loved gathering with her group of close friends for a backyard BBQ and an afternoon of bocce, followed by hours of card games well into the evening.  Most of all, Joanne was dedicated to her family, looking forward to gathering for holidays with her famous mashed potatoes, beef stew, and brownies.  Joanne was delighted at the birth of her grandchildren, taking an active role in their upbringing, attending their athletic events, and conversing over Facetime.

Beloved wife of the late John A. "Jack" Costello.

Loving mother of Joseph M. Costello and his wife, Jessica, of North Easton and Jennifer A. Kelleher and her husband, Gavin, of Sharon.

Cherished grandmother of Colin, Brendan, Ashlyn, and Vivienne.
