Joan P. (Peterson) Flanagan, age 84, passed away in the Tippett Home in Needham, Massachusetts on Sunday, August 9, 2015. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 20, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Clarence R. and Marian (Munchen) Peterson. She was raised in Greenwich, Connecticut and graduated from Greenwich High School with the class of 1948. She has been a resident of Walpole, Massachusetts for over 20 years moving from Medfield.
While in high school, Joan discovered her love for music by performing in several of her high school's musicals. Her love of singing continued as she joined various church choirs, most recently in Saint Mary's Choir in East Walpole. She also worked for Ficker Records in Greenwich for a short time.
She spent her 20 year long working career as a purchaser for the Kendall Company in Walpole, Massachusetts.
In her spare time, Joan enjoyed gardening, attending the theater and spending time at the beach, especially swimming in the ocean.
Beloved wife of William Flanagan and the late Peter M. Pope.
Loving mother of Richard M. Pope of Chicago, William F. Pope of Medfield, and Stephen K. Pope of Harvard.
Cherished grandmother of Stephen C. Pope of Burlington,Vt, Nicholas B. Pope of Brooklyn, NY, Eleanor M. Pope of Medfield, Sara C. Pope of Chicago, and Alice C. Pope of Harvard.
Sister of the late Richard S. Peterson and the late Clarence R. Peterson.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Joan's Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 11:00 AM.
