Joan M. (Hannon) Carver, age 87, passed away in the Norwood Hospital surrounded by family on Sunday, October 28, 2018. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 24, 1931, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Celia V. (Lynch) Hannon. She was raised in Roslindale, graduating from Roslindale High School with the Class of 1949. After graduation, Joan enrolled in the Faulkner Hospital School of Nursing, however her studies were interrupted when she met the love of her life, Joseph L. Carver.
Joan and Joe were married on September 15, 1951 in Saint Andrew's Church in Jamaica Plain. The young couple made their home together in Roslindale before settling in East Walpole, Massachusetts, where Joan took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her young family. As her children grew up, Joan returned to her education, earning her LPN from the Henry O. Peabody School in Norwood. She quickly found work in the Operating Room at Norwood Hospital and later worked with Dr. Martin Bradford and Dr. Martin Becker as a surgical nurse. Joan retired from the office of Dr. Martin Becker in 1996, after years of dedicated service to her many patients.
Throughout her life, Joan enjoyed both knitting and sewing. She made her family many scarves and sweaters over the years and was overjoyed when she passed down her sewing skills to her grandchildren. She also loved swimming especially in Lake Sunapee. Any day on the golf course was a good day, as Joan loved spending time with her family and friends at the Lost Brook Golf Course in Norwood. In her later years, after retirement, Joan looked forward to taking various cruises with her husband Joe, her children and grandchildren, making wonderful memories together. Joan enjoyed her quiet time too, taking time for herself with a good book or following the current political climate. Most of all, she loved being surrounded by those she loved, always opening her home and kitchen to her family.
Joan was the beloved wife of the late Joseph L. Carver, loving mother of Frances Carver Mulder and her husband Timothy of Sunapee, New Hampshire, Julie A. Carver-Brown and her husband Jim of Walpole, and Rachel M. Keating of East Walpole. She was the cherished grandmother of Joshua Carver-Brown, Brie Travaline, Elijah Carver-Brown, Olivia Van Den Berg, Dru Balsley, Joseph Keating, and Fallon Keating and great grandmother of Noah Van Den Berg, Annabelle Van Den Berg, Jazlyn Travaline, Matthew Travaline, James Travaline, Sophie Carver-Brown, Quinn Carver-Brown, and Casey Carver-Brown. She was the sister of Mary Pepi of East Walpole, Kathryn Hannon of Norwood, Ruth Hannon of Milton, the late Claire Brown of Portland, Maine, the late William Hannon of Naples, Florida, the late Constance Byrne of West Roxbury, the late Frances Keiran of Dedham, and the late Charles Hannon of Winter Park, Florida. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
