Jean E. (Dray) Walker, age 89, passed away in Longmeadow of Taunton in Taunton, Massachusetts on Friday, December 21, 2018. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on June 13, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Evelyn Louise (Butterworth) Dray. She was raised in Walpole, Massachusetts, graduating from Walpole High School with the Class of 1947.
Shortly after graduation, Jean married Francis C. Walker and the two made their home together in Walpole, where Jean took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her six children. After becoming a single mother, Jean took a position with Grant’s Department Store in Norwood, and eventually she transferred to their North Attleboro location and moved her family to the Attleboro area in 1967. Jean spent ten years with Grant’s before leaving the retail chain to pursue secretarial work at various businesses in the Attleboro area. Jean was a devoted caregiver throughout the 1980s, working as a home health aide. In the early 1990s, Jean took a job with American Greetings, working in their Big Value store.
Jean loved ballroom dancing! She spent many Saturday evenings with family and friends at Moseley’s on the Charles in Dedham, MA or The German Club in Pawtucket, RI. When she wasn’t on the dance floor, Jean was an avid “yard sale” fan. So much so, that many winters she would transform her basement into a “cellar sale” location and hang out her sign to attract other devoted yard salers during the inclement weather. When she wasn’t on the dance floor our scouting out yard sales, Jean enjoyed sewing and knitting; completing many craft projects over the years. She also enjoyed working on word searches and jigsaw puzzles. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
