July 3, 1930 — March 2, 2014

Jean Anne (Burke) Murphy, age 83 years, died in her Walpole, Massachusetts home on Sunday, March 2, 2014. Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts on July 3, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anne (Tansey) Burke. She has been a resident of Walpole since 1957, moving from Dorchester.

Jean worked for the United States Army at the South Boston Army Base for 15 years as an office manager in charge of payroll. Family was most important to Jean, so she transitioned from the working world to that of a homemaker, to raise and care for her family in 1959. She was incredibly close to her entire family and enjoyed gathering with them for holidays and family events. As a devoted mother, she enjoyed watching her children play sports and as an avid Walpole Sports fan, she served as "all sports" mom to help take care of her boys. Most of all, she loved spending time with and caring for her grandchildren.

She was a devoted member and volunteer at the Blessed Sacrament Church and the Blessed Sacrament School in Walpole for a number of years. In addition, Jean volunteered her time with the Red Cross as well as the Girl Scouts.

She enjoyed all sports and as a loyal Patriots fan, she took a special interest in football. As an avid reader, Jean frequented and was a supporter of the Walpole Public Library. Jean, alongside her husband, loved to travel, but she especially loved spending time at the beach while at her West Yarmouth Cape home.
