Jean Madden

April 20, 1946 — September 11, 2021

Jean Tierney Madden, age 75, passed away peacefully at her farmhouse in Sharon, Massachusetts surrounded by her loving family and beloved dogs on Saturday, September 11, 2021.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 20th, 1946, Jean was the daughter of the late Joseph and Alvina (Obey) Tierney.
She grew up in Jamaica Plain, MA and attended Saint Thomas Aquinas Elementary School, Saint Clare High School and graduated from Roslindale High School.  Later in life, she studied nursing at Laboure College.
Jean married her childhood sweetheart, Daniel Francis Madden on June 6, 1964.
The young couple moved to Turner Air Force base in Albany, GA and immediately started a family.  They had two children, the late Daniel F. Madden Jr. and Deanna while in GA.  In 1967, they settled in Dedham, MA where they had three more children: Joseph, Jeffrey, and Jennifer and in 1974 moved to their dream farmhouse, Windy Hill Farm in Sharon, MA. There they raised their family and countless creatures for 47 years.
Throughout her life, Jean had a deep love for all animals, great and small.  She spent several years breeding and showing Irish Setters.  She owned several horses and ponies and taught her children to ride, often taking them on trail and carriage rides.  She adored her many goats, chickens and ducks and treasured watching them roam daily in the sanctuary she created for them.   Jean shared her animals and farm with many, including special needs children and adults or people who just wanted to learn about animals.
Jean merged her love for animals into her career and for nearly 30 years was a certified veterinary technician and manager of the Walpole Veterinary Clinic and Tufts Veterinary Clinic.
Dedicated to making life better for others, she volunteered as a hospice visitor, Eucharistic minister and 4H leader. She shared her home and loving heart with many who needed her aid over the course of her lifetime.
Jean was passionate about cultivating vegetables, growing trees and flowers, and making her farmstead a haven for all creatures.  She loved sharing the farm and all its inhabitants with all 14 of her adoring grandchildren.
